Afaik K40-whisperer is the only project to have reverse engineered that protocol and provided alternative software, anything else requires you to replace the board with something more open standards. M2 Nano uses a proprietary closed protocol to talk to the host, hence the shitty chinese software. It is fully compatible with LightBurn, runs Smoothie & GRBL, and gives you PWM laser power control which is not possible with the stock board. it installs in 10 minutes, usually without any modification. Even if I budget 50 for not knowing what Im doing were at a high of 75 to change over to a GRBL controller that will 100 talk to Lightburn. it is designed to replace the M2 Nano board that ships with most K40’s. An Arduino Uno (15.00), CNC Shield (10), some stepper drivers (6 to 25 depending on what you want) looks to be able to control everything about a K40. If you want to use LightBurn with your K40 you may consider upgrading the controller with a Cohesion3D Mini. The 24V K40+ control board is packed with cutting-edge features to bring new capabilities to your 40W laser engraving machine. Getting this right is hard or expensive getting it wrong is repetitively expensive. The recommended temperature range is narrow.
